The emergency hotline is reserved for Belgians only for extremely urgent humanitarian aid or disasters outside office hours.
For urgent matters (accidents, lost or stolen documents, etc. - no visas!), Belgians can contact the embassy in Lisbon outside working hours and at weekends.
During the opening hours of your authorized consulate, please do not call the emergency hotline, but the usual telephone numbers.
Attention
Due to an increase in thefts and in order to enjoy a carefree holiday, you must be extremely cautious about pickpockets in tourist areas, including: public transportation, nightlife districts, outdoor cafés, etc. It is strongly recommended to leave your original documents at the hotel and carry a copy instead.
If you are traveling by car, make sure not to leave anything visible, especially documents or valuables, inside the vehicle. If you are using a rental car, try to remove any possible reference (stickers) to the rental company from the vehicle whenever possible.
Given the abundance of ATMs in the city center, there is no need to carry large amounts of cash.
